My favorite picture

I like this photo because I was there with my sister one year ago. At that time we were very happy because we were with all the family in my house. There was a winter’s day, it was raining, but we were with my family and my sister in Talca, the city where we live. I love these moments when my family is together, when the people are celebrating a birthday, a wedding anniversary, a baptism, a birth or just a good time. At these meetings are my grandparents, my uncles, my cousins, my sister, my mom and dad. Those moments are really good and happy, we can enjoy the good food prepared by the mothers with our help, the parents also recalling old stories and telling stories very funny. The worst is that these moments are not many in the year, but I enjoy it a lot.
The photo was taken by my cousin and my sister Camila was very happy because the semester was ending and very soon we would be on vacation. It was a moment like these days, a stressful semester’s final.
Finally, I must say that the meetings with people in the family and friends are the best. The pictures are good to remember those good times that sometimes we forget when we to worry about stressful things that really are not very important. This photo is my best example about these beautiful moments that we must remember forever, these moments with the lovely people in our lives.

My experience with english's blog

Well, this semester I have made English course in March, which I had to do a blog class to class on various subjects that the teacher has given us. At first was a little difficult, but over the weeks I learned a lot and gradually begins to be easier to write and comment on the blog posts of my teammates and let them read my publications. I remember how hard it was to make the blog, because I forgot the class had to create a new mail and it took me more than my peers. I also remember the first blog I made, which I introduced myself and talked about my preferences and the place where he lived, the second topic was on the earthquake, specifically I told my personal experience in this difficult time our country was at the beginning of this year. Well, when I read my blog I realize what I have advanced. I really believe that this activity will improve my vocabulary, my grammar and my English general. Generally write English blog helped me a lot not only in English but also to reflect on various issues and simple things that sometimes do not think too much and do not give importance of truth, such as film or favorite photo. I liked the experience of the blog too, was very interactive, and it left the traditional classroom settings.
I think sometimes it is very fun to make this type of activity, where we students can take our experience and personal preferences for learning about academic subjects. The blog is a good example of that, learn daily life and the simple things is very important, considering that English is a language that occurs in interaction with other every day.
Finally I can say that English is very important to function in modern society and learn interactively is much better for people as it is very difficult to understand other languages.

The Constant Gardener

My favorite film is The Constant Gardener; it is about a diplomatic man from England, who goes to Kenya to work with his wife. But Tessa, his wife is killed in Africa, and then Justin, the diplomatic man to begin investigates this murder. This history is based on a novel with the same name by John Le Carré. I like this movie, because it shows a romantic history and it talk about big transnational companies experiment with African people to test their medicaments. The actors that to play these characters are: Joseph Finnies who is Justin and Rachel Weisz, who is Tessa. The Constant Gardener received many prizes for example; Rachel Weisz won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress on 2005. This movie is very interesting, because raises several issues of the day. Other important thing is that this film shows the most beautiful landscapes from Africa, because it was filmed here, specifically in Kenya. It is a special movie for a rainy day. The Constant Gardener teaches us many things about respect, love and solidarity. Their characters are nice and the actors are the best. I recommend this movie, I assure you will not regret.

Good luck

A stressful week: how to survive?

Well, at the university who don’t have a horrible week, with many works, tests, quizzes and more class? I think nobody. Today I will write how we can survive to difficult weeks. First we must to keep calm, an useful option is to make a list with the priorities, then we can to assign one hour for each work. It’s very important to make breaks after forty five minutes, because our concentration decrease in this moment, break can be five or ten minutes. Other important thing is our food, it must be very nutritious, but it can’t be very much or very heavy food. To achieve a good study we must stay in a silent place, without distractions. To avoid pay attention in useless things or to fall asleep, we don’t must stay in our bed. We must are in a special place for the study. Other thing that we make in a very stressful week is to stay up late, but it’s very bad for our healthy. Sometimes we can’t to avoid staying up very late, but when there is time to study during the day. Finally after a stressful week, we must to relax and maybe to go out of the house. Go to the park, to the party or anywhere.

My favorite piece of technology

At present many technological objects have entered in our world. Many of them are very useful. Of all technological objects that I know, my favorite piece of technology is the DVD player, which is to watch movies in your own house. My first DVD player was a gift of my father three years ago in my birthday. I use my DVD player to watch movies, documentaries or recitals that I rent in video clubs near my house. I use it often, every week, especially every weekend, when I have time, although sometimes I can’t watch films, because at the university there are many works and tests. I love watch movies, especially thrillers and I can’t go to the cinema always, the DVD player helps me to watch them. I like stay in my house when it is raining in winter or with my friends in summer and to see many good films. I don’t know how would be my life without DVD player; it makes me funny in bored moments and it let me share good moments with my family, my friends or my classmates. Besides DVD player is useful in class, when we have to see a documentary or a film about any subject in college or in university. Finally DVD player is very useful for movie’s fan.

Practice or theory?

Today I want to write about our faculty’s life, specifically about how we, “los socialinos”, are making a life agree to social sciences. I will start telling you that I saw here when I arrived one year ago, many politic groups called “los colectivos”, invited us to work with them. The problem in our faculty maybe is how to integrate the theoretical with the practical work and each group offers different alternatives to solve. We can find many options to participate in society and contribute with our studies and our theory, for example some group make volunteer works in poor neighborhoods, others make free courses P.S.U. preparation and there are groups who give class to leaders from this city. Sometimes it’s difficult to make tangible work, because our formation in studies is not near to the real world and we can read important authors and writers, but the real life isn’t always like theory. We try, as social scientists in progress all the time make a good work in practice and in theory. There is still work to do, but every day there are people in this faculty who try and it is the most important.

A great woman

Simone de Beauvoir (1904-1986) was a French woman philosopher, writer, novelist existentialist, but the most important is that she was one of the promoters of feminism. She partnered with Jean Paul Sartre; she met him at the Sorbonne when both were studying philosophy there. Simone de Beauvoir was one of the founders of the magazine "Modern Times", with Albert Camus and Jean Paul Sartre. She was an early feminist who wrote at a time much more difficult for women than the present time, she had to face a "man's world." In one of his most important works is “The Second Sex”, an essay that talks about the historical role of women and explains why our society limited them in many areas, for example the job, the maternity an others. This paper became a classic of contemporary thought and serves as a theoretical basis for many feminist groups began to fight for women's demands. Simone de Beauvoir was an exemplary woman who made significant contributions to women’s liberation. There are still many things to do, she is still not completely free of "machismo" and prejudice of society, but following the example of people like Simone we can break down those barriers.
